The origins of the firm can be traced back to the early 1970's, when the parents of current CEO, Girish Kamath, ventured into the world of engineering, packaging and machinery.

One of the industry pioneers in India, Mr BS Kamath was instrumental in first introducing to the market mechanised packaging systems, with an import from Japan. Along with his wife, Mrs Kusum B Kamath, they went on to herald a change in the market through solutions bolstered by technical knowhow.

Since then, the Kamaths introduced solutions for economy-critical sectors, such as infrastructure development and agriculture, and were felicitated by the Government of India for their contribution to the industry.

In 1986, with the formation of a new entity, there was a concerted effort to develop, manufacture and market products not just in India, but across the world. This led to the next generation taking over the reins of the business, as the manufacture of circular looms progressed. In a short span of time, weaving machines were being supplied to countries in 5 continents.

Today, this entity is called CALIBRIS.
